Dr . Kaihang Wang
New assistant professor Kaihang Wang is taking a lead in the emerging field of genome engineering. He received a BSc in Biochemistry, with first class honors, from University College London. He then went to the Jason Chin lab at the University of Cambridge MRC-Laboratory of Molecular Biology where he received his PhD in Synthetic Biology and Biochemistry in 2008. After receiving his PhD, he was awarded a prestigious junior research fellowship at Trinity College. Kaihang does research aimed at developing methods to "write" the sequences of entire genomes within living cells, enabling the engineering of synthetic organisms with new genetic codes and new capabilities. His future research aims to further develop this genome engineering technology, taking it beyond bacteria to animal cells, and use it to develop a variety of new biotechnology applications.
